How to install RAM into your desktop



Is your computer running slow or sluggish? One way to fix the problem is adding RAM. This usually cost from $50.00 to $100.00 at a local computer store. Adding RAM is the quickest and least expensive way to speed things up. If you only have 256MB of RAM you really need more. If you have 512MB it wouldn't hurt to add some. Nest you need to find out what kind of RAM you need to buy. One easy way to do this is to go to a place like crucial.com and use their RAM tool which will tell you what to buy and how much you can add. If you have a desktop machine, open it up and take a look. First unplug the machine and take off the side panel. You find the RAM slots on the motherboard and you may have 2 or 4 slots. Now you need to deciede how much RAM to buy. If you are running Windows XP 512MB is the absolute minimum but more is better. 1GB is great. Adding RAM is really easy. You want to make sure you are grounded and then take the RAM module out of the package and get ready to installed it. On a desktop machine, find an empty slot and slide the module in. There are locking arms that will engage to hold the module in place. Now you can put your machine back together and turn it on. It will automatically recognize the new RAM module. Now you'll find that your computer boost faster, loads applications faster, and changes windows alot faster. Congradulations! It is like having a whole new machine!
